OVERVIEW FROM PASSIVE HOUSE SCHOOLS AND NZEB SCHOOLS TO PLUS ENERGY SCHOOLS

ABSTRACT
During the last decades several educational buildings in the Netherlands were built with a strong environmental ethos even Net-Zero Energy Building schools were built as early as the ninety nineties. Over the past years the building of Passive houses has received a stimulus in many countries and several school have been build according the passive design philosophy. The evaluation studies showed very good energy efficiency but sometimes moderate indoor air quality and indoor climates. Still this was only a step in development to more sustainable schools and the next steps are schools which generate more energy than they need themselves: Plus Energy schools. In the article the development in the Netherlands is described as well as some examples are presented.
