ABSTRACT

Environmental construction goals cannot be reached by merely using passive house standards for new building. Achieving the highest possible energy efficiency in existing buildings is therefore the order of the day. This cannot be done without accurately analysing the existing buildings and defining targets. It is not possible to renovate all buildings according to the passive house standard – but where is the limit?

In order to determine the future residual value we will have to travel along new paths and therefore be able to reach new conclusions. The energetic standard will become more significant than the factors of the location and the building substance. Real estate could possibly lose its importance as a “stable investment”. The passages below will explain more in detail the “self test”, an example of a renovation of an existing building using the passive house standards for new buildings, demonstrating how far you can and should go with the renovation of a building and its economical impact.
